#1300

He's done. I finished my 1300th doll yesterday. As several of you correctly guessed, he is King Theoden from The Lord of the Rings. Jenny Arsuaga contacted me about a month ago to see if I could make him. She had gotten a custom horse that came with a really cool costume and wanted a doll to go with it. Originally I said that I absolutely would make it, but it would be after TRXC. Then when I was updated my doll book, and realized how close I was to 1300, I said I would make him sooner. So here he is, my 1300th doll. I'm really pleased with this.
Theoden was just as complex and time consuming as I thought he would be, but I think he was definitely worth the effort. There are a few cloudy spots in his finish, I think from moisture underneath, so I am going to let him cure for a day or two. If the spots don't clear I can touch him up and regloss him. This is one of those dolls that I am very impressed with. I like most of the dolls I make, some more than others, but a doll like this just makes me so happy. It took a lot of years to get to the point where I could make a doll like this. And even more time to get to the point where I was sure I could do it and confident that I would find the way.
This is a pic of the costume that Jenny sent me as part of the reference. All of this is so gorgeous! I hope that Theoden fits nicely.
So that's it, I've reached my milestone and the contest is wrapping up. My plan for choosing the contest winner is to count all of the comments (not including mine) since the start of the contest and then I will use a random number generator to choose the winner. I will count all of the comments up until 8:00 EST tonight. You are welcome to keep commenting on anything and everything after that. I think my next big contest will be for 250,000 page views. I have a LONG way to go! But progress is being made. Thank you to everyone for reading and commenting! I've had so much fun with this!

I saw that model with tack when searching who Theoden was. Very cool. I've made LOTR tack before and found it very challenging. You did an awesome job on the doll.

Cool. (Still, WETA or whoever did the costumes for LOTR used Chinese warrior influence for the designs. :D)

Considering myself a LOTR fan I am quite a bit ashamed that I didn't realize who he was sooner! You did a great job on him. Would love to see pictures of him on the horse :)
